Portrait Session Location Guide

 

It’s time to pick the perfect spot for your session! I shoot outdoors in natural light, during golden hour (always concluding just after sunset). I’ve hand picked some stunning locations in Alice Springs that are perfect for photo sessions, here are my top picks! Use the navigation arrows to scroll pictures of each location.

East Macs Hilltop

🌿 Vibe: If you’re after a hilltop session, this is your spot with 360 views of the rugged East Macs. The walk up is short, but is very rocky and slippery in places. Good footwear is a must (even if you swap them at the top).

 

📍 Distance: 20 mins from Alice Springs CBD (sealed road + partial dirt road)

Honeymoon Gap

🌿 Vibe: The glowing red rock-face of Honeymoon Gap makes an amazing backdrop, plus the tall gum trees with soft filtered light. Lots of space to run around makes this a perfect sport with pets.

 

📍 Distance: 15 mins from the CBD (West MacDonnell Ranges – sealed road)

West Macs Views

🌿 Vibe: We begin your session in a sheltered grassy setting nearby, then take a short walk over to an open claypan for sunset views over Simpsons Gap.

 

📍 Distance: 20 mins from the CBD (West MacDonnell Ranges, sealed road)

🚶‍♀️ Access: Everyone – location is drive up and short walk on flat ground

The Claypans

🌿 Vibe: The perfect bushland setting with views of the mountain ranges at sunset. Perfect spot for pets or big families with lots of space – especially nice by the water after rain!

 

📍 Distance: 10 mins from the CBD (Illparpa Road + partial dirt road)

🚶‍♀️ Access: Everyone- very little walking required, drive right up to the spot.

The Telegraph Station

🌿 Vibe: Tall shady trees with sunlight filtering through is the backdrop for this spot, with the option of the heritage buildings in the background. At sunset we can walk nearby to catch the glow of last light on the red rocks.

Trig Hill

🌿 Vibe: Inside the Telegraph Station Reserve, Trig Hill is perfect if you’re after that mountain-top feel for your photos. It’s a steep uphill walk up so is not recommended for young children or elderly people.

 

📍 Distance: 5 mins from the CBD (Telegraph Station)

🚶‍♀️ Access: Adventurous – approx 10 min walk up a hill

The Sand Dunes

🌿 Vibe: Rolling red sand dunes and hill-top sunset views! Perfect for sessions with pets.

 

📍 Distance: 35 mins from the CBD (the meeting point is 15 mins from the CBD, the drive from there is around another 15 mins)

🚶‍♀️ Access: Most people –  walking in soft red sand and up a dune is required

🐾 Pet friendly: Yes! This a great spot for pets as there’s plenty of sand to run about safely in.

Simpsons Gap

🌿 Vibe: Set in the riverbed against the striking red rock mountain backdrop, this location offers complete shade – perfect for the Summer months
